Company News >> The direction of the high finger to help you out of the LCD parameter maze 26th,Apr,2018
                                  - "The monitor enters the era of LCD." We have heard of similar words since long ago. However, this "era" has not come yet. Until the beginning of this year, due to the price reduction of the global LCD panel, the price of liquid crystal displays was greatly reduced, and the barriers that hinder the popularization of LCDs were truly broken. At present, with the progress in the performance of liquid crystal displays and the reduction in prices, sales have continued to climb, and they have greatly replaced CRT monitors. However, with the increasing number of brands in the market, the parameters of the liquid crystal display are becoming more and more invisible. Among them, small brands or even no-name liquid crystal displays tend to make big fuss on brightness, contrast, response time, and other indicators. The high-end indicators and 17-inch prices are only a thousand dollars, making people think that their LCD monitors are very high. The price/performance ratio. However, we take a closer look. First-tier display manufacturers such as Samsung, Philips, LG, etc., have their own panel production lines and factories. However, the prices of the products cannot be as low as other small brands. Still in the lively market of LCD monitors, still insist on the principle of a penny and a payment? I believe that after reading this article, you will be able to know what you think.
High brightness is not worth showing off
Brightness refers to the degree of brightness of the display under a white screen, in units of cd/m2, or nit. Brightness is an important factor that directly affects the picture quality. For the LCD, there is a very popular saying: "Brightly cover three ugliness." Even if there are other unfavorable factors such as poor saturation or yellowish color on a bright display, the screen may still look beautiful. At present, the general commercial LCD brightness specifications are about 250cd/m2~300cd/m2. This brightness is enough for us to feel dazzling, of course, the products of brighter specifications are under development or have been mass-produced. The liquid crystal panel emits light because its backlight module has a lamp, just like a fluorescent lamp for lighting, but only a bit smaller, the monitor will install two to six or more. We can see that the brightness does not have much technical content for the display itself, so we do not need to be excited about the high brightness that the manufacturer emphasizes when purchasing the product. It should be more to consider the uniformity of brightness and humanized adjustment functions, such as text, network, entertainment, games, and other different modes of easy switching, because for different applications, we will have different requirements for brightness. It's too dark to be seen when watching movies and playing games. It's too bright and it can be detrimental to lamp life. In this regard, the first-tier big manufacturers have made a lot of efforts, such as Samsung's 12 magic tricks, Philips' "Four Smart Technologies", LG's "Fuzheng Real Core", and AOC's Six Major Heart Skills. Humanized ease of adjustment is also an important direction for the development of displays.
Contrast cannot be determined by brightness
The contrast is the division of the blackest and whitest brightness units. To be more precise, the white signal is subtracted from the saturation of 100 and 0, and divided by the white value of 0% in units of Lux (the white signal of 0 is black).
Using this as a benchmark, manufacturers have calculated that higher contrast means better screen quality. In this case, black will be "black" and vice versa, so the screen will recognize more colors. But in fact, this is not entirely correct. Let us look at the steps they used: Establishing a contrast level means separating white and black saturation. For the simplest example: a screen with a maximum and minimum brightness of 0.5 lumens and 200.5 lumens, respectively, will have a (200.5 - 0.5)/0.5 = 400:1 contrast ratio. In order to get a surprising contrast, the manufacturer will use any favorable reason to emphasize the brightness of his screen. If you adjust the maximum brightness to 400.5 lumens instead of 200.5 lumens, the contrast will automatically increase to 800:1. In the market, some liquid crystal displays with PVA panels can achieve a contrast ratio of 1000:1 or even higher under less than 300 lumens. How can this be achieved? In fact, the reason is simple, as long as the black minimum can be reduced. However, the technical content required by this will be high, so we see that many products on the market still use the method of increasing the brightness to increase the contrast. Increase the brightness is very easy to do: spend electricity, increase the brightness of the lamp or increase the number. The high contrast achieved in bright glare and sacrificing color and picture performance is completely meaningless. Therefore, we should pay attention to the trade-off between contrast and brightness in the purchase of products.
